ANGELES
CITY -- Mark Dizon, the suspect behind the killings of nine people in the city,
has been taking anti-depressant and anti-psychotic drugs, highly placed sources
told Central Luzon Daily.
Dizon, 28, a computer technician, had been diagnosed by a neurologist to be
suffering from mental disorder and was prescribed Haloperidol (Serence) and
Prozac 10 years ago. His last prescription was issued on June 16, 2000.
He took his medicines before bed time.
Central Luzon Daily obtained a copy of the prescription, which was signed by a
known neurologist in Pampanga.
Dizon purportedly took Haloperidol, an anti-psychotic pill being prescribed to
persons with symptoms of mental disorder, according to a medical expert who
declined to be named.
This kind of drug, the source said, is not approved by the Food and Drugs
Authority, but it is commonly prescribed as treatment for psychotic patients.
Prozac, on the other hand, is an anti-depressant pill.
Dizon had been tagged by witnesses as responsible behind the June 22 killings
of American Albert Mitchell, his wife Janet, driver Boy Vergara, and two
housemaids Marissa Fajardo and Isabel Prado at the Hensonville Court, in
Barangay Malabanias here.
Police said the victims were shot one after the other by the suspect before
taking the cellular phones and other valuables owned by the Mitchells,
including a digital video disc player and cords for computer sets.
Dizon was arrested on July 27 in San Fernando City, La Union by policemen from the
Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) who disguised themselves as rebels, using the
names "Ka Abel" and "Ka Rigor".
Chief Supt. Arturo Cacdac Jr., director of the Central Luzon Police, told
reporters that Dizon was thinking of joining the New People's Army (NPA),
prompting the intelligence personnel of the ACPO to trick the suspect into “negotiating”
with him to join the underground movement.
Supt. Elvis Diaz, chief of the intelligence unit of ACPO, posed as "Ka
Rigor" while another cop posed as "Ka Abel."
Chief Inspector Marciano Banola, chief of the Investigation and Detective
Management Bureau, said Dizon was armed with a .32 caliber pistol when accosted
by lawmen composed of the City Public Safety and Management Company led by
Supt. Rommel Batangan.
Banola said illegal possession of firearms case had been filed before the
Provincial Prosecutor's Office in San Fernando, La Union against the suspect.
Police said Dizon is also the suspect in the July 9 killings of Australian
Geoffrey Allan Bennun and his girlfriend Abegail Helina inside the Oasis Villa,
Clarkville Compound, Barangay Anunas here.
The suspect was tagged by the police as the gunman in the killing of British
James Bolton Porter and live-in partner Melissa Madarang residing along Nicolas
St., Sta. Maria Village, Barangay Balibago.
Investigators found spent shells for a 9mm caliber pistol at the two crime
scenes, and experts say the casings were fired from the same firearm.
Dizon is presently detained at the Angeles City District Jail.
